Make Sure The Cabinet Doors Have Adequate Airflow

One of the measures that most manufacturers of cabinets, server equipment, and telephony hardware suggests is that you should make sure there is around 68% in an open area to the front and back of a cabinet or rack to ensure there is adequate airflow. Ideally, this can be done with the use of removable cabinet doors or doors in the cabinet that have perforations. It may be that, as the majority of server units and other network hardware are built with internal fans, that is all the ventilation you need. That is, as long as there is enough air conditioning in the room it is all situated to dissipate the generated heat.

There are also cabinets you can invest in with side panels that further increases the airflow.

Placement of Hardware and Fans

Another consideration you need to make, ideally when you are first setting up your network or server cabinets is not having too many in one cabinet. Don’t try to completely fill a cabinet, thinking you are making the best use of the space available. It is best to aim for around 75 to 80% capacity. You also should try to aim for at least 4cm of clear space between server and telephony equipment and the cabinet back and front. Furthermore, use blank panels to close off unused space to stop cold and hot air mixing.
