DrayTek Vigor 2862N Wireless ADSL/VDSL Modem Router with Firewall

The Vigor 2862 Series is the new flagship Router/Firewall. its the'Ultimate DSL Router', Supporting both ADSL or VDSL (BT Infinity™/FTTC) and packed with professional level features to increase security as well as functionality, making it an ideal Router for any Scenario.

As well as ADSL/VDSL support, alternative WAN ports can instead provide connectivity to Ethernet feeds (Gigabit WAN2 is switchable with LAN Port 5*), secondary xDSL modems or a 3G/4G cellular service using a supported USB adapter. These multiple LAN feeds can be combined for failover or load balancing.

The DrayTek 2862N includes support for other professional features such as VLAN Tagging, QoS (Quality of Service Assurance), High Availability, DNS Filter, Policy Based Routing and User Access Control.

Hotspot features with customisable branding and wording can be applied to guest network VLANs and SSIDs - Click here for DrayTek's Hotspot Web Portal Information - https://www.draytek.co.uk/information/our-technology/hotspot-portal

If Draytek Wireless Access Points are deployed, the Vigor 2862N can act as the Central Management Controller - Click here for further information -https://www.draytek.co.uk/information/our-technology/wireless

A 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet switch on the LAN side provides high speed connectivity for your server, other local PC's or uplink to a larger Ethernet Switch.

Comprehensive security features include content filtering, web application controls and an object based firewall management system. Port 5 is switchable with WAN2 to use it an an Ethernet WAN port instead of a LAN port.

Robust & Comprehensive Firewall

DrayTek Routers take security seriously, the firewall protects against attacks, including DoS (Denial of Service) attacks, IP based attacks and attacks by any unauthorised remote systems. The firewall allows even more setup flexibility, enabling users to create combinations of firewall rules and restrictions to suit multi-departmental organisations, The Vigor 2862N also allows selective direction firewall rules of LAN to WAN, WAN to LAN or LAN to VPN.

Runs on Either ADSL or VDSL

The Vigor 2862N has a built in DSL interface that will connect to either an ADSL or VDSL2 line. If a second line of either type is available, an additional Modem can be added (or your existing Modem from your other line) to the Vigor 2862N's WAN ports. The two lines can be set up in balancing mode, where traffic is split across both of them, or into failover mode, where the other DSL line only kicks in if the primary DSL line fails (or vice versa).

ADSL makes a good method of failover for VDSL because they are delivered differently. VDSL service is provided and powered by a cabinet in the street, that is where the line terminates. ADSL service comes from your local exchange and is powered from there. This means if the VDSL's cabinet is damaged, the DSLAM fails or power is lost to the street, VDSL is lost, but ADSL lines come via a different method and route so is less likely to be affected.

IPv6 - Next Generation Internet Routing

The Vigor 2862N supports IPv6 - the successor to the current IPv4 addressing system that has been used since the Internet was first created. IPv4 address space is full up and IPv6 allows for much more efficient routing and a larger address space. IPv6 is supported both from your own ISP, but if your ISP does not (yet) support IPv6, the Vigor 2862N also supports IPv6 broker/tunnel services to provide IPv6 access using either TSPC or AICCU via 3rd party IPv6 providers.

User Management/Authentication

The Vigor 2862N has built in user management which allows you to provide conditional internet access with Time and Data usage quotas to different users, based on their own unique login (stored in the router or an external Radius Server.

VPN Features & SSL VPN

VPN - Linking remote offices, HQ, Teleworkers and Mobile Staff

A feature central to DrayTek routers it its VPN (Virtual Private Networking) capabilities. A VPN enables users to link remote offices and branch offices back to HQ, or home based/mobile teleworkers back to your office. Once connected, they have access to your office/remote resources through a secure encrypted tunnel allowing remote desktop, file sharing and seamless access to other resources and devices.

The Vigor 2862N allows you to have up to 32 simultaneous VPN tunnels to remote offices or teleworkers. It supports all common industry standard protocols, encryption types and authentication methods (see specification tab for full support list). Teleworkers can authenticate directly with your LDAP server if preferred.

VPN Trunking is supported on the Vigor 2862N, allowing users to create tunnels down multiple WAN connections to a remote site in order to increase bandwidth. VPN Trunking provides failover (backup) of your VPN route down a secondary WAN connection. Learn more about DrayTek VPN here - https://www.draytek.co.uk/information/our-technology/vpn-overview
